Toronto will be in the spotlight of the beach volleyball world as the Port Lands plays host to the Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals.

The best teams in the world, including both gold medalists from Rio, will meet for the biggest beach volleyball competition of the year outside of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The event, which runs from Sept. 13 to 18 at Polson Pier, will feature the eight best men's and women's teams plus four wildcards. They'll be in a heated battle for sought-after crowns and one of the biggest prizes in beach volleyball history with a cool $500,000 up for grabs.

Local Canadian heroes and duo of Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk, and Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter, will bring their top game with the goal to win on home sand.

This is the first time Toronto is hosting the illustrious season-ending tournament, which is expected to offer an enhanced spectator experience against the backdrop of the city skyline.
