Local ice skaters will have a new place to glide gracefully — or fall hard — this winter.

A new skating rink and ice trail is opening at Riverdale Park East on Dec. 16 — a month ahead of schedule — as part of a significant revitalization project that has closed off areas of the park for nearly two years.

Along with the new skating surfaces, the redesign also includes a winter lounge, Zamboni station, as well as a new playground, barrier-free accessible ramp, access pathways, and site furniture and lighting improvements.

Lace up your skates, hit the fresh ice and enjoy a hot chocolate at the grand opening taking place at 11 a.m. on Dec. 16.
