Toronto just got a new destination for deep dish pizza. And when we say deep dish, we mean it.
Double D's, a Chicago-style pizza parlour now open on Gerrard, serves up ultra-thick pies more on par with a lasagna than your average wheel.
The new pizza joint is claiming to being the city's only joint to serve up pizza Chicago-style, which is to say, a characteristically high edge and a deep surface for hefty amounts of cheese and a chunky tomato sauce.
Double D's offers three choices of pies — Chicago Classic, Jalapeño Blue and Farmers' Market — in personal through large size. There's also the option to choose your own adventure by building your own masterpiece. Gluten-free crusts are available for $5 extra.
Choose between takeout, delivery or the option of dining in. The restaurant has a mix of wooden tables and a high-top bar with stools for chowing down on its monstrous pies.
Double D's is now open at 1020 Gerrard St. E seven days a week — Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. to catch the late-night crowd.
