Inspired by the prairies, made in Toronto and loved by many east enders, Leslieville's Pizza Thick recently opened a west end location for its deep dish.
Pizza Thick is now pumping out Regina-style pizzas — toppings layered several inches deep sitting on a crust of oozy melted cheese — on Queen West in a shared space with Death by Gelato.
"We carry Death in Venice Gelato in the East, and now Death in Venice Gelato carries us in the West," says Amylee Silva, who co-owns the pizza parlour with Michael Kolkas. "We share the space with Kaya Ogruce and another catering company — a new way for small business to succeed. We share the rent and work the space together."
Pizza Thick's Queen West menu is the same as its original location, with doughs made fresh daily — a hybrid between a deep dish pizza and a biscuit crust — available in a one-size l 15-inch pizza loaded with toppings.
Favourites include The Big Smoke, an ode to Toronto, with pulled pork, Italian sausage, bacon, red onions, Mama's Pepperoni and a blend of cheddar & Santa Lucia mozzarella cheese on a bed of bold BBQ basil tomato sauce with Hickory Sticks.
There's also the T-Chris. Who is Chris? Well, he is the regular who helped design this pizza, so you have him to thank. Mama's Pepperoni, Italian sausage, onions, fresh peppers and mushrooms call this pizza home.
Pizza Thick is open at 536 Queen St. W. For more info, and to order online, visit pizzathick.com.
