Raise The Root, Leslieville's newest green grocer and natural food store, didn't get its name by chance. Before opening its doors, the store ran a neighbourhood contest looking for the perfect play on words to characterize the fresh, earthy vibe the shop was going to bring to the area. Raise the Root was the punny winner and its name has caught on with the community ever since.
The store fills a street grocer void this stretch of Queen St. was so noticeably missing. While going to one of the big box supermarkets down Leslie can feel like a daunting mission, Raise the Root offers the convenient alternative of a quick in-and-out pickup for quality organic produce.
For such a small space, the store offers a surprisingly wide selection of local brands alongside organic products from names like Kind Organics, Sunshine Yolks and Pinehedge Farms. The bright space is beaming with fresh fruits and vegetables, natural groceries, organic dairy and household staples and personal care products. It's all well organized with plenty of room to roam. Best of all is that prices are very reasonable considering the high-quality offering. The store even offers 'ugly' fruit and veggies at a discount — perfect for tossing in the blender or juicer.
Raise the Root regularly hosts free in-store wellness workshops and has its suppliers drop in for sampling to test and try out goods. Swing by, say hello and walk out feeling wholesome.
